PV Inverters

Efficiency is a key property on inverters for renewable energy. Increased efficiency of the inverters will improve the utilization of the harvested energy and help making PV systems profitable. Cost of the inverters is also becoming more and more important as the subsidies of PV electricity is being reduced and the other system components are seeing a price reduction. 

By using the BitSiC transistor both these things can be achieved. The higher efficiency in combination with the ability to use higher switching frequencies gives the designers the opportunity to actually cut costs of their designs. Higher efficiency leads to lower requirements on cooling and less aluminum to be used in heat sinking. On top of that the size and cost of passives, mainly the output filter inductances can be reduced by increasing the switching frequency and yet at the same time maintain a high efficiency.
